There has been a flurry of DIY
In the flat as of late... I guess it's spring cleaning of sort... Alfredo created a new light feature in the sitting room and we finally framed a lovely piece that Miss Woo painted for me a few years back. It's a really beautiful piece. He is called Phoenix and is the calf that survived the foot and mouth out break in the UK a few years back. Both the lights and the painting really make the sitting room much nicer!

Phoenix the calf!!

the new lighting piece!
Beyond that life in baby land is good apart from a few pooplosions... hilarious but very very dangerous for white dressing gowns!

Pooplosion!
When we returned home the other night from our first outing minus baby we found our lovely babysitter sitting on the sofa in this position... I know it well! Chiara looks fab!

Miss Chiara and the girls
While walking home from supper at Luca's house last night we turned the corner onto our street and it was empty so I snapped this shot! Lovely no? Like a snap from a few hundred years ago...

Well we passed the milestone...
of leaving the wee one at home with a sitter and made it to the concert on Saturday night. The venue was half full... the crowd predominently English and the average age well over 30... The girl standing next to me hit the nail on the head when she said 'this concert is for old people' lol. Ian Brown looked pretty destroyed and the sound was too thus it didn't make for a very good concert to be honest... however when he did play two stone roses tracks the place went wild. I felt kind of sorry for him as it must be a pain when you're trying to flog your new work and people are only interested in what you used to do in the past... but it still pays the bills I suppose... Andy Rourke (the bass guitar player for the Smiths) joined him on stage for a while and then was the dj upstairs for the after party... It was pretty funny as I dared Alfredo to go up to him and request that he play a Smiths song... cheeky bugger of course did... and you know what? He played one! Hilarious...
When all was said and done we headed back home and arrived just before 1am to relieve the lovely Chiara of her babysitting duties. She skipped off into the night to join her friends who start their night at 2am... insane! I am indeed an oldie now, but that's fine by me!

Two of cups

Today after a very very early start... we were up and out of the house by 7am for a 8am apt at the hospital (all is well don't worry)... we ended up in Gracia at 10 having breakfast. I tell you, finding a non smoking bar to have breakfast in was quite a challenge... I found it hard to believe that they had no terraces open yet... It's a whole new world when you're up and out at that time of the morning!
After returning home and passing out for a 20min powernap/simultanious baby feeding session I jetted out to meet the girls for lunch. It was really nice to spend some time out of the hosue without the baby attached to my breast and a small dog on my lap! While we were walking home we walked down this narrow street in the gothic quarter and scattered on the floor were a deck of tarrot cards. We each picked one up that was lying face down. Mine was the two of cups. Apparently it's a very positive relationship card which symbolizes a pending marriage or something of the sort... too cute! Then I read futher down the page and saw that if the card was upsidown that is meant the total opposite... Luckily I don't remember which side up it was... perhaps that's my fortune! Either that or it was the cards mocking me and simply pointing out my two over flowing cups...

89 fabulous years!
My grandfather is celebrating is 89th birthday today. Quite amazing to think all the changes in this world that he has seen and experienced during his lifetime... He was born in 1919 so he's seen wars, depressions, social repression, social liberation as well as immesurable technological advancements. he's got an ever expanding brood of offspring which is soon to reach the magic number of 18 (including children, grand children and great grand children). I am so indeed fortunate to have had a grandfather around for my entire lifetime thus far. He's taught me so many things from how to play tennis, golf, badmonton... to his wickedly dry sense of humour... I know a sprinkling of stories from him from his long past and although his memory is still 100% in tact he is never terribly keen to reminice or drudge up too many stories about the war or about him moving from Scotland to Guyana and then eventually along to Canada. Its a shame really as he must have so many amazing stories tucked away... however I guess when you really think about it, living in the now is probably a great sense of lightness for him as pulling up stories from such a long past could possibly become a bit of a chore emotionally... Who knows, perhaps I'm reading too much into it, but the real important thing is that because of him, my family as I know it exists, and that is pretty fantastic.

Cheers to you my lovely grandpa!

It's bitter sweet
It's 6 years to this date that my father passed away. It's amazing that after all these years I still feel that he will come back some day. I guess it's just one of the ways people grieve. I look for signs of him in Sienna's litte smiles that she's started making and any other glimmer of his reflection through her... It's all a bit soon for that I suppose.
Some days I miss him so much as we are doing something or going somewhere where he would have love to have come. It must be so especially hard for mum but she is not one to talk about such things... that's just the way it is with her and fair be it as it's her way of grieving...
Well the sun is out here and I hope to enjoy this day in his honour.
Daddy we miss you!

The beaches are full of lobster looking northern europeans and chubby american girls with desperate needs for pedicures...
Be that as it may, I am not at all ready for swimming in a chilly sea just yet... I shall remain in the comforts of my gym's indoor swimming pool for a while yet. However I am sure glad that the chill of winter is on it's way out!
I came across these two brilliant pics that Ollie took the last time he was here. They are too cute not to post.

Looking dapper!

Lilli a la warhol... this should totally go in Sienna's room!

I won I won!
Sadly it's not the lotto... but I did win two tickets to go and see Ian Brown when he plays here on the 12th of April! Not bad! I won them by sending an email to the music station that we have on the TV sometimes during the day called Fly Music. Pretty cool if you ask me, as there is no way on earth we would be in the market to purchase the pair of tickets which sport a total pricetag of 120Euros! Now we have to find a sitter and for the first time ever leave Sienna alone with someone who is not my mother! I wonder how many times we will call home to see if she's okay??? I think we managed 3 calls to my mum and we were only gone for 3h...

not the biggest looker but its all about the music...
One of my favorite blog reads called violent acres is hosting a money raising campaign for a great cause. Do stop by and check it out... I donated a meagre 5 bucks but hey, we're on a budget here at baby towers... but every bit counts no?
Family portrait!!!

I've got time on my hands...
And a baby who is learning a lot of languages... so I figured that now was the perfect time to start signing to her as well. I remember back in 2003 I blogged about Hannah's boyfriend's brother teaching their son how to sign and how successful it was. I remember her saying how how happy they were to be able to communicate with their son and him to be able to communicate with him before he could fully speak.
I'm hoping my sister and her husband will do this with little Isabella too... that way the girls can start talking with each other even sooner!
Noeleen will of course approve as she is an interpreter!

One more birthday gift...
When Luca and Ana stopped by last week for a visit after work, they brought with them a big brown box with a huge red ribbon . Inside it contained these...
Five phallic shaped balloons... one is supposed to be a placenta... you figure it out. It goes without saying... I love these guys! I have not laughed so hard in such a long time!
Going along with this joyous mood I simply must post (even if it's only for Andrea and Joey's benefit) picture of two pairs of shoes that I may or may not have purchased the other day... I explained to Sienna that shoes could indeed be considered to be more important than nappies... she did not quite agree and threatened to call child protection services... thus why I'm being vague if I bought the shoes or not... I don't want her to catch on.

Now that
Dame Chocolate has finshed there was a risk that my afternoons would become productive once again... that was of course until they started this new telenovela... Las tontas no van al cielo... The english synopsis of the storyline is here (if you are really that interested...) Well for me it's quite amusing although I can't stand the theme song... Even Fredu tolerates it as he thinks the guy who plays Candy's uncle is a great actor. Thank you Mexico for producing some light entertainment! I wonder if I will pick up a mexican accent now??? Just kidding. I have to ask my single Mexican reader whom my tracking tells me lives in Querétaro do you too watch this show?

Los protaganistas!
There is another soap that follows the one I mentioned above and it's called 'Pura Sangre' which for you non Spanish readers, means 'Pure Blood' it takes place in the mountains in Venuzuela and it is much more dramatic and sinestre... It's described as...
'This story is a turbulent river of passions, hatred, and vengeance... where love, in its most sublime form, struggles to keep from drowning in its waters.'
Riveting indeed... however by that time I'm usually ready for a nap... ah the life!

The grey weather continues
But so does the productivity that we have been experiencing... We were (begrudginly) up and out of the house by 9h this morning as we had an apt with the pediatrician... We braved a quick coffee on the terrace while conjuring up memories of sunnier (and much warmer) days that we've spent in that same spot... it's funny how winter has decided to arrive when it's really time for spring to be doing those sorts of things...
We ended up collecting poochie and going for a walk down the beach so some furrier members of the family could burn off some steam...

handsome beach combers!
By the time we returned home at 15h some of us (meaning most of us) collapsed into pile on the sofa and had a long winter's nap...
We're off to the twin's 6th birthday party tomorrow. I hope the weather perks up a bit... but if it doesn't that's okay too as we bought the boys kites and of course a bit of wind is always good for flying them.

To market to market...
This morning was unusally productive... we were washed and out of the house by 11... bought b'day presents for Wendy and Roy's twins... made a doggie apt for miss Lilli (for next monday) she's getting the full service wash as well as ear cleaning and anal glands drainging (eww)... Then off to the Boqueria to get out weekly stock of fruit and veg... then back home to drop it all off, then back out again to get across town the the matrona... All this and then back home by 15h! This I tell you, is about as much as one usually gets done in a week, never mind a morning...
Auntie Ana and Uncle Luca are coming over for supper tonight and of course for a squooge with the baby... I hope she's feeling better by then as she's been quite under the weather for the past few days.

If only I weren't on maternity leave... I would have bought the pair of these two beauties and brought them home. Lilli on the other hand... would have probably not been so keen on the idea...

Stocked!!!
New ideas (or not yet realised old ones) have been churning around lately and we're possibly going to embark on a new business venture. Early days yet but there are a lot of things falling into place so best roll with the flow!

Yum!!!

I am so pleased that I managed to finally catch up with the lovely Siobhan. She's all set up on her new farm where she is stabling horses. She's got a new gf named Meg who has a chihuaha too... It's kind of funny... This makes 3 from the old Ottawa crewwho now have the wee mongrels in our lives. I wonder if Danielle ever got one as if I remember correctly she was the one who always went on about having one?? Speaking of Ottawa crew miss Kim is on the move again from Yellowknife and now if I am not mistaken living in Cambridge Bay... talk about the great white north! Amazing really as the old Ottawa crew is now scattered around the world! NYC, Spain, France... Northern Canada. Who would have thought?

Are people in Toronto reading my blog???
I ask this as mum reports that she saw in the birth announcements that there was a Sienna Elise (we are Sienna Ellice) born on the 13th of March. Too funny! There have been Sienna Elizabeth's and Sienna Maria's which were both contenders for us too... great minds think alike I suppose. Well perhaps it's a popular name in Toronto but here it's quite unusual so we're okay I suppose :)
It's not been dull here at baby central as between all the normal things we have now taken on, we are contending with a certain furry creature's hormones... I can't say that it doesn't make me blush to mention but certain dogs have been furiously humping sharky... quite disturbing if you ask me... but it adds to the madness so it's no surprise in the timing...
Great motion going on in the house today. Unlike most people who seem to put together the crib months before the baby arrives... we've waited until today. Up until now she's been sleeping in the bassinet of her pram. At the cost of the pram it's a good thing that it's got a multi-purpose use!
Little miss got some good use out of her fab outfit that my seestor bought for her yesterday. It's so cute! Lilli thought so too...

Enhorabuena seestor!
So yes, my sister and her husband successfully purchased a new house. It's on a lovely little street not far from where she lives right now. It has a huge garden with a tree house and a hot tub! I can't wait to visit it! At this rate, they may have moved by the time we get to Canada for a vist! We were however mildly horrified when we did the math and figured what they payed for this lovely house with a massive garden in Brampton would only buy us a 35 square metre studio flat here (or a 1 bed flat if we were lucky)... How depressing is that? Ah well, we'll keep feeding the piggy bank and playing the lotto (long term financial planning baby!) I jest, I jest.
Fredu did a big upload of pics he's been stashing on his camera so stop reading here if you're not up for a baby and dog overload...
Don't say I didn't warn you!

Everybody needs a tummy for a pillow

Sleepy furry thing.. and sleepy not so furry thing

Yea there is lots of sleeping... but this one is my favorite! She looks like she's sleeping on a cloud

Morning chats

daddy cuddles (and fab pillow cover that maria knitted for us while she was here... sadly some bad dog shred it and now there is a great gaping hole in the middle... I am very sad about that)

Oh yea, she's bad! She's sporting her skull and crossbone t shirt... won't fit for much longer so we're enjoying it while we can. Lilli is no phased... her bone is just too yummy to put down.
